Spring '08 Photo Contest
Entries - Entry #7
Customer: P.K. of
Oakland, NJ
Material: 150 yards Organic Topsoil as well as one Bobcat tractor,
one chain saw, a big sledge hammer, 125, 8"x8"x8' foot railroad
ties.
Project:
The right side of our property
(adjacent to the house) was scruffy brush and trees on a patch 40 feet
wide and 200 foot deep front to back. The problem was that it was 8 feet
below the foundation line of house and over the years severe erosion was
rapidly moving the steep drop-off point closer and close to the house.
Visions of a failing foundation haunted me at night. The
Solution: Construct a two tier railroad tie wall adjacent to the house,
level the back-yard, clear and level the side yard, apply topsoil, install
sprinklers, grow lots of grass and pretty flowers.
Start to finish - one person - two years in spare time. The neighbors love
it, the chipmunks love it, but more than anything - I love it. And yep -
the house foundation loves it too.
Comments: I cant say enough good things about the folks at Soils
Online, especially with regard to arranging many, many truckloads in sync
with the weather, placement of the material, and soil chemistry - which
was spot on.
